02 How it looks today

Street lighting has grown complex.
Controlling it shouldn't be.

Your lighting has grown — but your system hasn't. In many places “smart” is still just a light switch.

A large share of existing street lighting still runs without real control. No adaptation, no intelligence – just on and off.

No real controlMany networks have no control in any real sense – lighting is simply switched on or off centrally.
Time-based, not demand-basedTime switches decide when the light comes on – regardless of traffic, weather or actual demand.
Ripple-control receiversBasic ripple-control technology allows only limited commands – usually a few switching states with no feedback from the network.
No feedback from the fieldFaults are often noticed only when citizens report them – the system itself provides no reliable information.
Proprietary point solutionsSome more modern components exist – but mostly as isolated, proprietary islands with no interplay.

The result: a lot of effort, little control – and enormous untapped potential.

03 What sets us apart

Take control of your infrastructure.

grovez.io makes urban and industrial lighting intuitively controllable — from the street to the parking lot. Open at every interface, secured at every endpoint, simple on every screen.

01

Open integration — no lock-in.

Mixed luminaires, mixed protocols, mixed manufacturers. grovez.io unifies your estate over LoRaWAN, MQTT and API — without forcing you to swap everything or adopt a proprietary stack.

02

Monitoring & alerting.

A transparent overview of the status of your entire lighting. Instant notification of outages or faults — react proactively and plan your maintenance accordingly, instead of learning about problems from citizen calls.

04 Open about the radio network

Open and flexible —
with any network.

Our preferred path is a network that already exists — Element IoT, The Things Network, NB-IoT or your national LoRaWAN such as Swisscom LPN. If there isn't one yet, we advise you on the setup and provide the LoRaWAN network server.

01

Roaming onto existing networks

Already on Element IoT, The Things Network, NB-IoT or a national LoRaWAN such as Swisscom LPN? We roam onto it — our preferred path, instead of competing against a network that's already there.

02

Your own LoRaWAN server

No network yet? We run the LoRaWAN network server for you — EU-resident, with automatic recovery.

03

Advisory

Site surveys, radio planning and vendor selection — we advise you on the setup, from a single site to a whole district.

05 Secure by Design · Cloud-native

Cloud doesn't mean risk —
it means security.

grovez.io meets the highest European security standards — from data protection and cloud security to IoT network protection. Transparent, robust and “Made in Germany”.

11 FAQ

Frequently asked questions about connected lighting.

What is a smart city lighting platform?

A smart city lighting platform connects your street and outdoor lighting in one central cloud interface. Instead of fixed switching times, you control every luminaire or segment in real time, see faults instantly, and adjust brightness on demand.

What is the difference between LoRaWAN and MQTT?

LoRaWAN is a radio standard for sending small amounts of data over long distances at very low power — ideal for connecting luminaires in the field. MQTT is a lightweight messaging protocol that moves that data between devices and the cloud. grovez.io uses both and adds open APIs on top.

Can I retrofit existing luminaires without swapping hardware?

Yes. grovez.io is vendor-neutral and connects mixed estates over LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, MQTT and API. In most projects every existing luminaire stays in the ground — the only new thing is the unified control and telemetry layer above it.

How secure is the platform, and is it GDPR-compliant?

The platform is GDPR-compliant and EU-resident — built to the highest European standards. It is additionally CRA- and C5-ready.

Does it create vendor lock-in, or is grovez.io tied to open standards?

grovez.io is openly documented at every interface. You keep control of your data and your estate and can combine hardware from different vendors — without tying yourself to a single supplier for 20 years.

How quickly is the platform ready to use?

Getting started takes minutes, not weeks of training: app-guided onboarding integrates new devices directly, and maps, control and alarms are visible immediately. Larger estates are migrated district by district while live.
